To understand the basic paradigm of Human Design we need to know that we have a body, the vehicle of life, that houses our soul or spirit. The black definitions (gates and channels) in our Human Design bodygraph represent the Personality traits, the expression of our soul´s essence. The red definitions stand for our body’s qualities, our physique. The moment we bring both of them together the uniqueness of a person´s soul quality inhabiting its current body is created and we can visualize the blueprint of this unique being, this unique child, in a bodygraph.
The profile (the lines of the Personality and Design Sun/Earth) in Human Design gives us the description of the special role we play within the whole. It is the costume we wear, the costume we feel most comfortable in, it is the costume that is made for us and completely fits us. The more we start showing up in the “right clothes” (again), the more we encounter the right people and circumstances, and therefore start living out our purpose, our destiny, and occupying our unique place in the big picture. All of that just magically happens when we are able to follow our strategy and authority. What does that mean for our children?
As anything that goes through a developmental process, it also takes some time for children to grow into their particular costume. At first human bodies are learning how to be here on this material plane, they are basically helpless and dependent on outside support. Our souls are coming into a new body and are encountering a new set of life experiences no matter how wise and old they are. At this early stage human beings encounter deep limitations in their interactions with others until they learn how to communicate in a way most people understand, which mean using words to communicate. That can be a very limiting experience for parents and child. Many parents start to become more aware of other ways to communicate with their offspring so the children can make their needs and wisdom known through means of non-verbal communication. There are a lot of ways to communicate without using words, for example body language, empathy, and most importantly our aura does the talking no matter how old we are.

Our auras, the electromagnetic fields around us, define the types of Human Design. Becoming more attuned to non-verbal forms of communication allows for our deeper connections to arise and the sweetness of interactions based on communion can be experienced. One of the things we need to learn is how to function as a human being within the social context we are born in and that is what most of us call raising our children. Children are trained to follow rules and regulations to fit into their familiar context and society at large. Allowing the aura to do the talking, allowing deeper connections to show us where we belong and where communication can flow freely changes our social dynamics and the way we define togetherness in generell.
Parents who are open to Human Design, have the advantage of knowing what type their child is and how to support their child’s developmental process by interacting according to their specific type and our bodies and aura fields are already communicating without fail. Communication needs vary profoundly from type to type and can be integrated into daily life from the moment a child is born. Asking a generator child instead of telling them and honoring their body’s response, respectfully and politely telling a manifestor child to ask for permission, through one´s own example to inspire them to behave politely towards others, and still allowing them to roam free within the safety of the reasonable boundaries the parents set for them, recognizing a projector child for their unique capacity to see life and invite them into whatever resonates with their being, and initiating reflector children into the beauty of the natural world, the planets, and the stars and when it comes to the mundane deeply respecting the time it takes them to dance with a decision for one or more moon cycles, will teach your child that they are perfect the way they are born. It teaches them to expect nothing less than respectful treatment from anyone they encounter later on in their life.
Hopefully in the first years of our lives we are encouraged to listen to our body’s wisdom to decipher what is correct for us instead of being forced into adaptive defense strategies that are basically unhealthy for us but allow us to fit in. At first the circumstances in our environment are completely determined by our parents´ decisions and the older and more independent we become as children, the more any child can decide for itself what is correct or not. Please respect your child’s inner authority and allow them within their capacity according to their age to learn what it means to make decisions based on their body’s innate wisdom. The body knows so much more than the mind. The mind is meant to measure, analyze, and understand so we can put our experiences into words and share these life experiences with each other, and the body is the life.
The body is the life. Following your strategy and authority (re-)aligns the body.
Coming back to profile, the role we play in the bigger picture of life. Children are not concerned with fulfilling their life purpose because unless we interfere with who they already are, they are naturally moving towards fulfillment. Like a flower they start out as a little bud and keep growing and growing until they come into full bloom. All it takes is time. What we can do is to facilitate our childrens´ journey so they can stay aligned on their path instead of being thrown off track and therefore eventually having to find their way back as most of us have experienced in their lives. Acknowledging the needs of the particular types and authorities and being aware of the different ways the 12 profiles play out is providing essential signposts for parents to guide their child in a safe and respectful manner.
Children like the rest of us are conscious about the black definitions in their bodygraphs, so it is easy to connect to a child’s personality. You as the parent will be the first to notice the unique traits your child’s body carries and you can support them in their understanding of it and in getting to know their own unconscious parts by reflecting them back to them according to their type and profile. Eventually the child will become more aware of its unconscious (red) definitions as well and be able to recognize them as part of itself. Please note that for some of the profiles things will seem to go wrong very often and yet for them it means they are completely on track as learning and discovering through trial and error is part their discovery process in life. This refers to all 3rd-line profiles as well as any 6th-line profile in their first 28,5 years of their life. So following their strategy and honoring their authority makes an enormous difference in the way they experience life. When you enter into the correct experiences that go wrong, you learn, when you enter into experiences that go wrong and were not meant to be experienced by you, it is hard to gain any experiential wisdom from them and you can end up feeling like a failure.
Depending on our profiles we have very distinct and different views or perspectives:

- 1/3 Investigating Martyr
- 1/4 Investigating Opportunist
- 2/4 Hermit opportunist
- 2/5 Hermit Heretic
- 3/5 Martyr Heretic
- 3/6 Martyr Role Model
- 4/6 Opportunist Role Model
Juxtaposition (the bridge between): 4/1 Opportunist Investigator
Transpersonal karma (bird´s eye view on life): have access to old wisdom and to old connections (and therefore a deep form of love or entanglement), can confuse old connections with the ones that are relevant right now, here for the other, transmit the information explored by the right angle profiles
- 5/1 Heretic Investigator
- 5/2 Heretic Hermit
- 6/2 Role Model Hermit
- 6/3 Role Model Martyr
Transitional profiles, meaning profile 1/4, 2/5, 3/6, (4/1), 5/2, 6/3 are all bridging profiles and have an innocent motivation. All the people with these profiles are meant to be the connection between the profile that comes before and the profile that comes after them. They are here to have no agenda in the way they communicate.
The profile consists of the lines of the Personality and Design Sun/Earth and each of the six possible lines is connected to specific keywords. Our soul´s quality (which can be seen the Personality´s base) is coming in with a certain frequency (the line of Personality Sun/Earth – number before the slash) and is housed by a body with another frequency to it (the line of the Design Sun/Earth – the number after the slash). In a reading you can go into the complexity of the whole bodygraph, yet it is not necessary to apprehend all the details that make up the whole because by following your strategy and authority all the parts fall into place on their own. The profile´s impact is strong because Sun and Earth influence 70% of our definition.
When you see your child living out his or her profile, you know they are within a positive conditioning field and therefore on the right track. And it is important not to forget that everyone’s costume looks a little bit different according to their type, authority and individual blueprint, yet there are some keynotes that each line resonates with deep within:
1st line: study, investigation, insecurity, empathetic to listen, bookworm or creative, awe and wonder of life, need time to study or be creative
A first line child will enjoy to spend time being creative or studying what it is interested in, it will be insecure any time something new begins and only find stability when it has built a secure foundation by going into the depth of study and finding out how it works.
2nd line: naturals, hermit, hopeful, hands-on, need non-interference in their natural habitat and to be called
Second line children are naturals, they prefer to do it instead of learning how to do it because they can, they have a deep need to be left alone and be allowed to stay in their own space to unfold their natural proclivities, before they start to share what comes naturally to them, they need to feel called out, otherwise they will stay happily within their own space.
3rd line: discovery through trial and error, open to experience, resilient, bumps into things, needs to be encouraged to find out what does not work and what can be changed through being open to new experiences
Third line children have a natural ability to bounce back after something goes wrong, the are open to learn about life through experience. Celebrating with them when they find out what goes wrong instead of punishing mistakes allows their spirit and self-worth to stay strong and healthy. When we start to celebrate what all of us can learn when mistakes are made we are on the road to wisdom. Celebrating the presence of mistakes instead of trying to avoid them and punishing ourselves and our children for them allows for natural learning and discovery processes to enrich our lives. We all learn by making mistakes and it is a natural part of life and when something does not work, we can become creative and find new ways how it could and third line children and beings are open to try it out.
Making mistakes is the road to wisdom!
4th line: friends, circle of friends (precursor of networking), connection, sharing what they know, stable, fixed, need to be able to influence their friends and family and time to withdraw into their own space
A fourth line child will be friendly and open to connect with others. They receive all their opportunities through their friends and are interested in sharing what they know to be able to see their sphere of influence. When challenged they withdraw as not to lose their stable ground so they need positive reinforcement.
5th line: practical, good with strangers, little helper in times of need, heretic, want to be the star, need to be encouraged to be special and be praised so they specialize and share it universally
Fifth line children seem to be perfect, at least that is the projection on them. They need an environment that knows about the projection field and the pressure to fulfill the expectations of others. Allowing them the time to come out behind their curtain and really show you what they are interested in instead of being expected to live up to expectations set upon them will spare them the broken heart they encounter for not being able to fulfill those expectations.
6th line: little angels on earth, inspiring to be a role model, wise, interested in the beyond, needs to be protected in their fragility in the trial and error phase of the first 28,5 years
6th line children are little angels that have to go through a deep learning process to really get their feet onto the ground. It is especially important to help them learn how to enter into experiences correctly so they gain wisdom from their trial and error process instead of being broken. If they only enter into the experiences and relationships their body is really open to, they will not be shattered in case something goes wrong.
Fifth and sixth line profiles have a connection to higher wisdom and want to share it with the world.
