Japa Meditation
Did you enjoy the mantra meditation?
If yes, let’s try japa meditation, the repetition of a mantra while you are meditating. You can use a mala, a prayer bead necklace with its 108 beads and repeat it the 108 times. 108 is a sacred number and if you stay with one mantra and practive it for 28 day practice moon cycle, the results can be quite miraculous. Mantras use the frequency of sound which is a very powerful transformation and healing tool. A short and sweet and still very powerful mantra is Aham Prema, which means I am love.
To integrate the mantra into your meditation, you repeat aham with each inhale and prema with each exhale.
- Find a comfortable seat (and set your timer).
- Close your eyes and be still.
- Focus on your breath.
- Inhale aham, exhale prema.
If you feel drawn to use a longer mantras, do not worry about inhale and exhale, simply repeat the mantra 108 times and allow its effect to unfold. Your mind is focused on repeating the sound. I personally enjoyed the books
